The Zambezi River above Victoria Falls is a beautiful setting from which to visit Victoria Falls, relax and acclimatise to Africa, and enjoy a variety of different activities such as boat cruises and cultural excursions. As you move into Botswana you then spend six nights on a luxurious big game safari, combining the remote Linyanti Region and the stunning Okavango Delta. Both regions are very exclusive and superb for big game sightings, while there is also time to explore the waterways of the magical delta.

ITINERARY DETAILS

Day 1-3: Tongabezi – 3 nights
On arrival into Livingstone, Zambia, you will be met and transferred west to reach Tongabezi, set overlooking the wide Zambezi River. Across the river is the Zambezi National Park in Zimbabwe, home to a wide range of wildlife. Your time here can be spent relaxing, joining local guided activities and visiting the spectacular Victoria Falls. From July through to January it is usually possible to visit Livingstone Island, a small island in the middle of the falls where you can swim in Devil’s Pool, right on the lip of the falls! It is also possible to view the falls from the air, by helicopter or microlight. Beyond the falls themselves you can enjoy boat cruises on the Zambezi River, local village and school visits, guided walks and horse riding. Please note some activities attract extra costs. Tongabezi is an exclusive, boutique property with excellent food and service. Your accommodation will be in their luxurious ‘Nut House’.

Day 4-6: Wilderness King’s Pool – 3 nights
This morning you will be transferred back to Livingstone where you connect with a shared light aircraft transfer west via Kasane (for customs) to the remote Linyanti Region in northern Botswana. On landing into the private Linyanti Concession you will transfer to Wilderness Kings Pool, arriving in time for a late lunch overlooking the beautiful lagoon and open plains in front of camp. Your time in the Linyanti Concession will focus on game drives to see Africa’s big game, especially as the area is a stronghold for elephant, buffalo and the major predators. Walking safaris, night drives, fishing and boat cruises on the Linyanti River are also possible, and there is a sunken hide overlooking a drinking spot for elephants. Wilderness Kings Pool has a lovely feel and offers luxurious accommodation combined with sophisticated, yet warm hospitality.

Day 7-9: Wilderness Vumbura Plains – 3 nights
After your morning game drive you will connect with a private scenic helicopter flight south-west to the superb Vumbura Concession on the northern edge of the stunning Okavango Delta. Your helicopter flight will be an awesome activity, flying you low over herds of animals and along the winding Selinda Spillway before you cross to the northern edge of the delta where a myriad of waterways, flood plains and forested islands unfold beneath you. Your days at Wilderness Vumbura Plains will include morning and afternoon game drives seeking out Africa’s big game, while night drives, walking safaris, boat cruises and mokoro (dug-out canoe) excursions are all possible too. The Vumbura (Kwedi) concession is super for game viewing and offers year round water activities. Wilderness Vumbura Plains has spacious and luxurious accommodation units with large outside decks overlooking the bush, and the central areas are cool and sophisticated.

Day 10: End of Arrangements
After your final morning activity, you will connect with a shared light aircraft flight to Maun.

INCLUDED
Full board accommodation, house drinks and laundry, internal light aircraft shared flights and private helicopter flight as specified, airstrip/road transfers, in-house activities and park fees at Tongabezi, conservancy/park fees and guided game viewing activities on safari.

VARIATIONS AND EXTENSIONS
It is easy to add further safari camps to this itinerary, perhaps from within the Okavango or Kalahari regions. All our itineraries are tailor-made so please do not hesitate to ask us about any possible variations or extensions.

WHEN TO TRAVEL

FLIGHTS AND ACCESS
This itinerary starts in Livingstone (Zambia) and ends in Maun. Both towns can be accessed on daily scheduled flights from Johannesburg, South Africa, whilst Livingstone can also be reached from other destinations in Africa. International flights are not included in the price guide.
