Botswana Safari Camps & Lodges

The vast majority of safari camps and lodges within Botswana are tented, varying considerably in style and degrees of luxury.

At the luxury end of the market, ‘tents’ are often set into permanent wooden structures with thatch roofs and huge private decks, backed up by five star furnishings, bath tubs with views out over the bush, and in some cases, air-conditioning and private plunge pools. However, there is also a wide range of more modest tented camps and lodges where location, atmosphere and the ‘close to nature’ experiences can be prioritised.

For the adventurous, there are well-organised but simple ‘fly-camping’ or ‘adventure camping’ options, usually associated with affordable overland camping safaris or specific walking, mekoro or horse riding trails. However, not all camp and lodges in Botswana are tented, and there are a limited number of safari hotels or solid structure lodges throughout the key safari regions, most notably in and around the Chobe National Park.

You might also wish to consider the option of taking a traditional luxury mobile tented safari, either privately or on a scheduled small group departure. Whichever you choose, these safaris always offer a first class tented experience and a genuine bush safari. Although these safaris are unable to visit any of the private concessions, there are many wonderful regions where they are able to operate.

Many of Botswana’s permanent camps are located on private concessions which are usually only accessible by air. They offer a very exclusive safari experience for a very restricted number of guests.
