Mauritius

Mauritius is a single ‘volcanic’ island located in the heart of the Indian Ocean.

It is a classic island destination with one major airport, a good network of roads and a large number of beach resorts and hotels dotted around the coastline and clustered around accessible beaches. No hotel is more than about 1h15 minutes from the airport.

The central part of the island is mountainous and whilst some sight-seeing excursions are possible, the island is really known as a classic beach resort destination. Accommodation is generally of high standard, with plenty of five star options and service levels to match, though there are plenty of three and four star options too.

As well as offering beautiful beaches, Mauritius has several exceptional golf courses and most resort hotels offer a wide range of water sports and spa facilities. Deep-sea fishing, scuba diving and snorkelling are all possible, whilst the south-west of the island is major destination for kite-surfing and wind-surfing.

Mauritius is the perfect beach destination if you are looking for comfort, service, wide ranging hotel facilities and water sports. Families with children will find Mauritius offers a great balance between an ‘exotic island paradise’ and great facilities. However, exclusivity is hard to come by as properties tend to be large and ‘resort style’, and beaches are rarely ‘empty’.
