Photography Safari in Africa

A Wildlife photo Safari is hugely popular and we understand what is required when photographing in the wild.

Having worked with many amateur and professional photographers over the years, we understand what makes a successful african photographic safari, whether you are travelling alone or wish to either join or lead a group. We can ensure that you not only go to the right places, but also that you are guided on safari by people who will appreciate your interests and the more subtle requirements of photography regarding positioning, light, background etc.

Most safari camps can provide a private vehicle where needed (at extra cost) and guides who appreciate the requirements of photographers.  More specialist camps and lodges are able to offer specially designed photographic safari vehicles, specialist professional photographers for tuition and guiding, and equipment rental. One or two even include good quality camera gear for each participant as part of their safari.

We also work with companies that can provide ‘doors off’ helicopter charters or specially designed ‘photo-boats’.

Special Camps & Lodges for a Photo Safari

There are also quite a few camps and lodges which have specialist hides overlooking waterholes or more specific attractions such as Carmine bee-eater nests, elephant drinking spots or hippo pools.

Good examples of this are:

There are many other properties across safari Africa that have on site underground hides, or access to hides in the bush.

Waterholes can become incredibly productive for game viewing and photography, especially at the end of the dry season. For an idea of how busy a waterhole can get, and how close you can be to the action, take a look at our film of Kavinga Safari Camp in Mana Pools, Zimbabwe.

In general there are endless opportunities for photography in Africa, from the spectacular wildlife to colourful peoples and dramatic landscapes. Many factors will contribute to the success of any dedicated photographic safari, the first one being our understanding of your requirements. Once we understand your specific ideas and requirements, we have the expert knowledge and contacts to ensure you achieve your photographic goals.
