Madagascar Beaches

Madagascar is surrounded by the Indian Ocean and offers varied beach habitats, ranging from tropical islands to coastal forest reserves.

The north-west coastline is best for traditional beach relaxation. The emerald green islands of the Nosy Be archipelago have beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters. Diving and snorkelling are excellent here.

On the north-east coast, Nose Ankao is home to Madagascar’s most exclusive tropical retreat – Miavana – whilst further south Isle St Marie offers some lovely beaches. Throughout southern Mozambique there are sections of coastline with nice beaches, but often there is no infrastructure in place and nowhere acceptable to stay.

There are also a number of very wild and natural coastal regions which combine an ocean experience with wildlife viewing, such as the Masaola Peninsula in the north-east (wildlife orientated), Anjajavy in the north-west (beach orientated) and Manafiafy in the south-east (wildlife orientated).
