Zimbabwe Accommodation

Zimbabwe offers a superb collection of small authentic bush camps where the emphasis is on hospitality and outstanding guiding.

Zimbabwe has built its reputation as a safari destination based on its natural beauty, excellent wildlife, and world class guiding; and while more luxurious camps have been established recently, the focus is still mostly on the experience rather than five star accommodation. Whatever the level of luxury, camps are generally small and intimate.

Safari purists will delight in a few of the authentic bush camps available in Zimbabwe, some of which are still owner managed and hosted by superb professional guides. A relaxed atmosphere, convivial campfire chatter, personal hospitality and comfortable but simple accommodation tends to be the norm, whether bush lodges or classic tented camps. For the more adventurous, there are mobile fly-camping options which tend to operate as part of a guided walking safari, something Zimbabwe is renowned for.

That being said, there are plenty of tented camps and lodges that offer sophisticated service and extremely comfortable accommodation, whilst retaining a certain authentic bush camp feel. There are also a handful of very luxurious safari camps which offer high levels of service and beautiful accommodation, but these options still involve “tented” accommodation. Solid stone or brick-built safari lodges are few, and are generally found outside the core wildlife regions.

In and around Victoria Falls town and National Park, more mainstream hotels and larger safari lodges can be found, alongside boutique guesthouses and more exclusive camps and lodges along the Zambezi River, some of which are very luxurious.
