This itinerary combines two of Kenya’s most luxurious and sophisticated properties in two of Kenya most beautiful regions. Firstly, an incredible big game safari in a private conservancy bordering Kenya’s famous Masai Mara, where you can enjoy spectacular game viewing as well es experiencing East Africa’s classic open plains landscape. Secondly, the lesser known Chyulu Hills in southern Kenya, where you can enjoy lovely scenery, varied activities, game viewing, cultural and conservation activities, horse-riding and views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Both properties featured offer high levels of accommodation, food and service. However, the two experiences are very different with the Masai Mara being predominantly about the big game experience, whilst Chyulu Hills complements this by offering a more varied, exclusive and relaxed escape.

ITINERARY DETAILS

Day 1-4: Mara Plains Camp – 4 nights
From Nairobi, take a scheduled light aircraft flight south-west to the Masai Mara. You’ll land within the exclusive Olare Motorogi Conservancy, where you will be met by your guide from Mara Plains Camp and transferred across the plains, game viewing en route, to arrive in camp in time for lunch. Your days will be spent exploring the Olare Motorogi and Mara North Conservancies, where the game viewing is simply amazing, as well as within the Masai Mara National Reserve (one day per stay). In addition to game drives, you can also enjoy guided bush walks, night drives and visit a traditional village. Mara Plains is a beautiful property offering high levels of luxury combined with an authentic African feel.

Day 5-8: Ol Donyo Lodge – 4 nights
Enjoy a final morning game drive before being transferred back to the local bush airstrip to connect with a scheduled light aircraft flight south-east to the Chyulu Hills (usually flying via Nairobi). On arrival you will be met and transferred to Ol Donyo Lodge, arriving in the afternoon. Your time at Ol Donyo can be as relaxed or as busy as you like. The accommodation is luxurious, the views are lovely towards Kilimanjaro, and there is a hide overlooking the camp waterhole which is often visited by wildlife, including large bull elephants. While game drives are available and very much part of the Ol Donyo experience, what makes Ol Donyo special are the variety of additional experiences possible, from horse-riding and walking to night drives, spectacular sunset drinks on rocky outcrops, conservation and cultural learning experiences, exploring lava caves and scenic drives up into the Chyulu Hills.

Day 9: End of Arrangements
Your morning is at leisure before you connect with a scheduled light aircraft flight back to Nairobi.

VARIATIONS AND EXTENSIONS
It is easy to add a third safari destination to this itinerary, such as the Lewa or Samburu in central Kenya, or to add some beach relaxation at the end, possibly beyond Kenya in Zanzibar, Mauritius or Seychelles. All our itineraries are tailor-made so please do not hesitate to ask us about any possible variations or extensions.

WHEN TO TRAVEL
This itinerary is available year-round, though game viewing and weather conditions are likely to be best from June to October and from December through to March. Migration season in the Masai Mara is best from late July to early October. More information can be found on our Kenya When To Travel page.
