Uganda offers a wonderful range of authentic and comfortable camps and lodges, but it is not yet a true luxury destination

The best experiences available in Uganda involve trekking in the jungle, sometimes negotiating steep ascents and descents, and accommodation options have developed to suit the market accordingly. As a result, Uganda is better suited to travellers with a sense of adventure, rather than those needing genuine luxury and sophistication. Whilst Uganda may not currently offer any genuine five-star luxury accommodation options with gourmet food and polished service, there is a wide selection of very comfortable four-star hotels, lodges and tented camps offering wonderful experiences, good food and friendly service. Many of our favourite properties have a sense of character and offer an authentic experience in tune with their surroundings. Put simply, Uganda is still more about the place and the experiences, rather than the accommodation. If you would like to see mountain gorillas but prefer to stay in five-star luxury, we would recommend visiting Rwanda rather than Uganda.
