Alphonse island

Alphonse Island is located far to the south-west of Mahe, beyond Desroches, but is worth making the effort to reach.

Alphonse offers a true island retreat, firmly in the middle of an ocean playground. The island is just large enough to have its own airstrip and one hotel, but otherwise you could walk around the edge of the island in around an hour.

The ‘atoll’ includes a huge lagoon inside the reef, whilst the reef itself is very productive for snorkelling and scuba diving. Beyond this the waters are superb for deep sea fishing, and several nearby islands offer perfect salt-water fly fishing conditions. Alphonse has always had a reputation for being a great fly-fishing spot.
