  • Peter and Shazia travelled to South Africa and Mauritius on honeymoonRob and the team at Safari Consultants. A very big thanks for arranging what can only be described as an ‘idyllic and perfect’ honeymoon. Cape Town was superb and we enjoyed the sights, history and wine! Safari was just magical – Tanda Tula was a true haven. It really was a very special place. Mauritius was wonderful. Lux le Morne was fantastic, the service was superb. Thank you for making our dream come true.Peter and Shazia travelled to South Africa and Mauritius on honeymoon

Introduction to the resort island of Mauritius

Mauritius is a single ‘volcanic’ island located in the heart of the Indian Ocean to the east of northern Madagascar and to the south of The Seychelles. It is a classic island destination with one major airport, a good network of roads and a large number of beach resorts and hotels dotted around the coastline and clustered around accessible beaches. No hotel is more than about 1h15 minutes from the airport.

The central part of the island is mountainous and whilst some sight-seeing excursions are possible, the island is really known as a classic beach resort destination. Accommodation is generally of high standard, with plenty of five star options and service levels to match.

As well as offering beautiful beaches, Mauritius has several exceptional golf courses and most resort hotels offer a wide range of watersports and spa facilities. Deep-sea fishing, scuba diving and snorkelling are all possible, whilst the south-west of the island is major destination for kite-surfing and wind-surfing.

Mauritius is the perfect beach destination if you are looking for sophistication, great service, wide ranging hotel facilities and watersports. Families with children will find Mauritius offers a great balance between an ‘exotic island paradise’ and a sophisticated level of service and facilities. However, exclusivity is hard to come by as properties tend to be large and ‘resort style’, and beaches are rarely ‘empty’.
