Malawi Seasons & When to Travel
The rainy season in Malawi is from November to April.
This means that for general weather conditions and more importantly game viewing conditions, the best time to visit Malawi is from May to October. Game viewing sightings will however be better later in the dry season, from July onwards.
Birding is good all year round and best from October through to March when migrants are resident.
As May to July is the southern African winter period, conditions on Lake Malawi can be a little windy and comparatively cool during these months, particularly if affected by cold fronts coming up from further south. Conditions will therefore be more favourable from late August onwards, and temperatures will remain warm throughout the rainy season.
