As well as Majete Wildlife Reserve, we also spent

As well as Majete Wildlife Reserve, we also spent time on safari in Liwonde National Park in Malawi, on the banks of the beautiful Shire river. The floodplains were teeming with wildlife - waterbuck, impala, both with lots of endearing young, hippos, elephants, kudu, baboons to name a few.

We had a brilliant night drive back to camp one evening with porcupine, white tailed mongoose, civet, a water mongoose and genets.

We were lucky to see both lion and multiple cheetah in the park, both of which have been reintroduced to the habitat by African Parks in the last decade. The lion cubs were only a few months old so provided lots of entertainment and excitement.

Another highlight was a boat cruise along the river – it’s such a nice activity to break up the game drives, floating past huge crocodiles on the banks of the river, and pods of hippos bobbing up and down, ending with some relaxing sundowners. I really enjoyed my time in beautiful Liwonde. Frances.

I am just back from an incredible trip through Mal

I am just back from an incredible trip through Malawi. We began our trip in Majete Wildlife Reserve, a huge conservation success story from African Parks. The powerful Shire river flowed through the park, and the river banks were both beautiful and productive for game viewing. We were incredibly lucky to find the only pack of wild dog in the park, they silently trotted by as we were enjoying a morning coffee stop (running impalas and baboons alarm calling were the only giveaway signs!). It was also one of the best places to see sable antelope I’ve ever come across - we had several sightings where they remained still and calm, before disappearing off into the bush. Majete was a special place to begin my trip through this diverse and beautiful country. Another cool but very different experience for me

Another cool but very different experience for me in Ruaha was hot air ballooning over the rugged wilderness. Taking off at dawn we floated over the Great Ruaha River and Ruaha's charismatic baobab trees looking for animals before ascending high up into what seemed like the stratosphere for incredible views of the vast landscape below. It was wonderfully calm, serene and beautiful. And wow, did we go quite high! We didn't see anything dramatic in wildlife terms, but heard stories of previous guests watching wild dog hunts and lion cubs playing in the early sunshine. It was certainly easy to imagine such sightings as the visibility was so amazing! Rob
