Honeymoons to Namibia and beyond

Namibia is a potentially stunning honeymoon destination. The landscapes are unique and inspiring, and whether you choose to explore by self-drive, head out on a private guided camping adventure or fly into upmarket lodges in the wilderness, you are guaranteed a pretty original and exclusive honeymoon adventure.

However, whilst Namibia does have a vast coastline with the Atlantic Ocean, it is not a country able to offer comfortable beach relaxation. For the best beach extensions you need to look outside Namibia, to places such as Mauritius, Mozambique, The Seychelles and Zanzibar. All these exotic destinations can be combined with Namibia, via Johannesburg in South Africa. Namibia can also be combined with other southern African countries such as Botswana, Zambia and South Africa, where attractions such as Victoria Falls, the Okavango Delta and Cape Town can offer relaxation opportunities as well as incredible sight-seeing and/or safari activities.

If you are seeking top level luxury, exclusivity and pampering, consider Sossusvlei Desert Lodge, Little Kulala, Little Ongava, Serra Cafema, Ntwala Island Lodge
and Villa Mushara.

For incredible experiences and very comfortable accommodation, consider Wolwedans Dunes Lodge, Mowani Mountain Camp, Onguma Tented Camp, and Okonjima Bush Camp, whilst more active and adventurous honeymoons could include a unique flying safari such as Skeleton Coast Safaris or a private mobile camping experience with specialist operators Kunene Tours and Safaris.

Safari Weddings in Namibia

It is possible and fairly straight forward to get married in Namibia, and there are a number of stunning locations to consider, such as the iconic sand dunes of the Namib Desert.

Please see our general ‘accommodation on safari’ page for more information on different styles of accommodation on safari. If you are looking into your first ever trip to Africa, you may wish to visit our ‘planning a safari’ section.

- South Africa

Honeymoons & Weddings

Honeymoons to South Africa

South Africa is a great all round holiday destination and therefore offers everything you might desire on an African honeymoon – plenty of wildlife, spectacular scenery, wonderful restaurants, warm hospitality, exclusive retreats and varied activities to suit all interests. For the more active, there are walking safaris, mountain hiking and horse-riding trails to consider, whilst there is no better place in the world to spend lazy days sipping wine and enjoying delicious food in the sunshine. Whatever your priorities on honeymoon, South Africa is an affordable and exciting destination to visit.

The one thing South Africa can not do is compete with the traditional Indian Ocean destinations of Mauritius, Zanzibar, the Seychelles and Mozambique in terms of ‘picture perfect’ tropical beaches. Although most beaches are sandy, and stretch for miles and miles, they are rarely ‘palm-fringed’ or protected by offshore reefs. They offer wonderful walks, great seascapes, surf swimming and surfing, but rarely the idyllic ‘tropical beach’ environment.

Whilst you may not need to look beyond South Africa, it is easy to combine a honeymoon in South Africa with a variety of other African hot-spots such as Victoria Falls and the Zambezi River (Zimbabwe and Zambia), the Okavango Delta (Botswana), Namib Desert (Namibia), Masai Mara (Kenya) and the wonderful beach destinations mentioned above.

Weddings in South Africa

Weddings are possible throughout South Africa and in a number of different locations, from wildlife camps and beach lodges to country hotels and mountain retreats. We are able to assist with wedding arrangements as well as help manage larger parties who may all have individual travel needs.

Please see our general ‘accommodation on safari’ page for more information on different styles of accommodation on safari. If you are looking into your first ever trip to Africa, you may wish to visit our ‘planning a safari’ section.

- Botswana

Honeymoons & Weddings

Honeymoons to Botswana and beyond

Botswana is a wonderful honeymoon safari destination as it offers amazing game-viewing, varied activities, exclusivity, intimate camps and lodges, stunning scenery and often very tranquil surroundings. For the more active, there are walking and horse-riding trails to consider, and there are certainly a variety of unique experiences available to make any honeymoon safari memorable. Light aircraft transfers between safari regions and camps are easy and fun, usually offering fantastic views. With iconic natural wonders such as the Okavango Delta to explore, Botswana really is a first class safari destination. However, Botswana safaris are not cheap and a Botswana safari combined with a good beach holiday does mean an expensive overall trip!

Whilst Botswana is land-locked, it can be combined with a variety of beach destinations or neighbouring countries to include different experiences. In particular, the Victoria Falls (Zambia/Zimbabwe) can offer relaxation as well as sight-seeing and activities, whilst slightly further afield amazing destinations such as the Namib Desert and Cape Town can easily be included. For the best beach extensions, Mauritius, Mozambique, The Seychelles and Zanzibar can all be combined with Botswana, although you will need to travel via Johannesburg.

There are many safari options to choose from in Botswana. If you’re looking for top level luxury, exclusivity and pampering, consider Xudum Okavango Delta LodgeXaranna Okavango Delta CampVumbura PlainsMombo CampZarafa CampSelinda Camp or Jacks Camp.

More affordable, yet still very upmarket and sophisticated are a number of camps including properties such as Baines CampLittle VumburaJacanaKwetsaniKanana Camp and Shinde Camp.

If you are less worried about luxury levels and very keen to maximise your game-viewing experience then you could consider more down to earth properties such as MuchenjeKhwai Tented CampLagoon Camp and Kwara Camp, whilst for more active and adventurous safaris you could consider a mobile camping trip with Letaka Safaris, a Footsteps Across the Delta walking safari, or horse-riding with Okavango Horse Safaris.

Safari Weddings in Botswana

We do not recommend getting married in Botswana because the process is ridiculously complex and you have to make more than one visit to the country! If you wish to get married in Africa, you’re probably better off considering doing so in South Africa, Zambia or Zimbabwe and then going to Botswana on ‘honeymoon’.

Please see our general ‘accommodation on safari’ page for more information on different styles of accommodation on safari. If you are looking into your first ever trip to Africa, you may wish to visit our ‘planning a safari’ section.

Whatever your specific ideas and desires, we specialise in designing individually tailored itineraries and can offer you the expertise and personal service required to guarantee a perfect honeymoon or wedding safari. Please call us to discuss your ideas and requirements.

- Zambia

Honeymoons & Weddings

Honeymoons to Zambia and Beyond

Zambia is never going to be a gentle or mainstream honeymoon destination, but if you are looking for a safari experience which is a little adventurous, wild and exclusive, then the country does offer amazing game-viewing, varied activities, intimate camps and lodges, stunning scenery, warm hospitality and very tranquil surroundings.

For the more active, Zambia is arguably the best African country to consider, with wonderful walking and canoeing trails available. Victoria Falls is an amazing sight and the region offers a variety of experiences beyond just viewing the falls, including helicopter or micro-light flights, lunches on Livingstone Island, Zambezi boat cruises and elephant-back safaris. Between them, you’ll certainly not be short of memorable honeymoon highlights.

Although Zambia is land-locked, building in some relaxation time, either before or after a safari, can easily be achieved. Livingstone and the Upper Zambezi, close to Victoria Falls, is the perfect destination to consider. Here you can relax, unwind, and watch the Zambezi slip just as easily as doing many of the activities and excursions mentioned above. However, if you really do wish to include a ‘beach holiday’, the closest beach destination is Lake Malawi (in neighbouring Malawi) which offers lovely beaches, great swimming and snorkelling, and a relaxed and friendly African ‘vibe’. For more traditional ocean escapes, Zambia can be combined with exotic Indian Ocean destinations such as Mauritius, Mozambique, and The Seychelles by travelling via Johannesburg, or Zanzibar via Dar es Salaam.

There are many safari options to choose from in Zambia. If you’re looking for out and out luxury, safari spas and pampering, you probably shouldn’t be focusing on Zambia, but for high quality and comfort, try Chiawa Camp and Sausage Tree in the Lower Zambezi, Puku Ridge in South Luangwa or Tongabezi and The River Club in the Victoria Falls/ Upper Zambezi region.

There are many other very comfortable properties, even if they are not quite so sophisticated, such as Islands of Siankaba (www.siankaba.net) in the Victoria Falls/ Upper Zambezi region, and Mchenja Camp or Tena Tena Camp in the South Luangwa.

However, Zambia is a destination best chosen for the experience it offers rather than comfort levels, and some of the best camps and lodges are fairly rustic in style, such as Tafika Camp or Kaingo Camp in the South Luangwa, and Old Mondoro in the Lower Zambezi.

If you are interested in doing an exclusive in-depth walking experience, consider Chikoko Walking Trails or Luangwa Bush Camping.

Weddings in Zambia

It is possible and relatively easy to get married in Zambia. Whilst we can arrange wonderful weddings in the bush, it is the Upper Zambezi and Victoria Falls region which is most popular for Zambia weddings. Not only are the iconic Victoria Falls a potentially amazing back drop, but the accessibility of the region is crucial in making all those little details that much easier to arrange.

- Tanzania

Honeymoons & Weddings

‘Bush & Beach’ Honeymoons in Tanzania

Tanzania is a very popular honeymoon destination as it offers amazing game-viewing in iconic safari destinations such as the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Selous, and beautiful beaches on a variety of idyllic islands such as Zanzibar. Crucially, the different safari regions can easily be combined with the coast, with excellent scheduled flight connections, making Tanzania an excellent ‘safari and beach’ destination. There are also some very affordable safari options and beach hotels, so Tanzania is able to offer a wide price range, though of course the higher quality options are still expensive.

Tanzania does offer great variety in terms of safari regions and beach properties, so we can really tailor-make your honeymoon to suit your personal tastes, interests and budget. The Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti in the north, and the Selous and Ruaha in the south, are all such fantastic safari regions (especially for first-timers on safari) that even if the Tanzania coast does not appeal, you may wish to consider a Tanzania safari in conjunction with a beach extension further afield, such as northern Mozambique.

There are many safari options to choose from in Tanzania. If you’re looking for romance, exclusivity and pampering, consider Beho Beho in the Selous, Ngorongoro Crater Lodge at the Ngorongoro Crater, Faru Faru in the western Serengeti, and Sayari in the northern Serengeti

For a more adventurous and down to earth safari experience but still with a big ‘wow’ factor in terms of setting and service, try a tented camp such as Serengeti Under Canvas or Serengeti Safari Camp in the Serengeti.

For those looking for a great wildlife experience at a more affordable level, consider Selous Impala and Lake Manze in the Selous, and Mdonya Old River Camp and Kwihala in Ruaha.

It is always possible to combine a more adventurous tented safari with a more luxurious lodge safari to create the perfect balance between romance, pampering, game-viewing and adventure. Tented safaris may require a more adventurous pioneering spirit, but the whole experience is so much more personal and intimate than you might experience in larger, seemingly more comfortable, lodges.

For the beach, the range of properties is huge. On Zanzibar there are a range of excellent resort-style hotels like Breezes and the slightly more boutique Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel. At a five star level, try Baraza Resort.

There are also intimate beach lodges such as five star Palms Resort and Kilindi, four star Matemwe Lodge and the more affordable Shooting Star.

For a more remote and escapist stay, look at some of the islands off Zanzibar, such as the stunning Mnemba Island, or more adventurous Chumbe Island or Fanjove.

SAFARI WEDDINGS IN TANZANIA

We have arranged numerous romantic weddings in such iconic locations as the rolling plains of the Serengeti and the white sand beaches of Zanzibar. Your wedding can be tailored to suit your requirements – either with all the frills, or just romantic simplicity. There is a little more paper work involved and you will need a few days in Tanzania before the wedding, but overall, it is relatively straight forward. Obviously your wedding can be incorporated into a longer safari and beach itinerary.

- Kenya

Honeymoons & Weddings

‘Bush & Beach’ Honeymoons in Kenya

Kenya is a popular honeymoon destination due to the simple fact that it offers amazing game-viewing and beautiful beaches, and crucially, the two are relatively easy to combine. Kenya also tends to be the most affordable of the ‘bush and beach’ options, though it does obviously depend on where you stay. The great thing about Kenya is the variety of options on offer, so you can really tailor-make your honeymoon to suit your personal tastes, interests and budget. The Masai Mara is such a fantastic safari option (especially for first-timers on safari) that even if the Kenya coast does not appeal (or it is the wrong time of year), you may wish to consider a Kenya honeymoon safari in conjunction with a beach extension further afield.

There are many safari options to choose from in Kenya. If you’re looking for romance, exclusivity and pampering, consider Sasaab in Samburu, Saruni in the Masai Mara, or Ol Donyo Lodge in the Chyulu Hills. For a more down to earth safari experience but still with a bit of ‘wow’, try a tented camp such as Naibor in the Masai Mara or a boutique lodge such as Elsa’s Kopje in Meru. For those looking for a great wildlife experience at an affordable level, consider the Kicheche camps or Offbeat Mara in the famous Masai Mara. It is possible to combine a more adventurous tented safari with a more luxurious lodge safari to create the perfect balance between romance, pampering, game-viewing and adventure. Some of the tented safaris may require a more adventurous spirit, but the whole experience is so much more personal and intimate than you might experience in larger, seemingly more comfortable lodges.

For the beach, the range of properties in Kenya is huge, from resort-style hotels like Serena Beach and Pinewood Village, to exclusive island retreats such as Manda Bay and The Funzi Keys. ‘Robinson Crusoe’ hideaways like Kizingo and Kiwayu offer raw escapism. It is also possible to combine a Kenya safari with a beach extension to Zanzibar, The Seychelles, Mauritius or Mozambique.

Safari Weddings in Kenya

We have arranged numerous romantic weddings in such iconic locations as the foothills of Mount Kenya and the rolling grasslands of the Masai Mara. Your wedding can be tailored to suit your requirements – either with all the frills, or just romantic simplicity. There is a little more paper work involved and you will need a couple of days in Nairobi to start with, but overall, it is relatively straight forward. Obviously your ‘bush wedding’ can be incorporated into a longer safari and beach itinerary.
