Mapazi Camp – currently closed

Mapazi Camp is a remote and highly exclusive walking camp located on the banks of the Luangwa River in the north eastern area of South Luangwa National Park. sadly mapazi camp is currently closed and we are not aware of imminent plans for it to re-open.

Mapazi is a very niche but superb safari product. When a camp is relatively basic and the only activity on offer is walking, it really all comes down to two elements – the camp location and most importantly, your guide. Deb Tittle has been guiding in South Luangwa for over 20 years and has a passion for exploring on foot. Her style is not to simply meander gently and discuss the plants and spoor that you come across (though such a leisurely and informative walk is always available), but rather to pro-actively head out into the bush to explore – to listen, to track and where safe, to approach big game. Deb is an extremely good guide and her enthusiasm is infectious. The camp location is also excellent, being located in an area of the park that is rarely touched by any other visitors due to a complete lack of access roads. Lots of game around, but totally exclusive! Despite exuding a high degree of bush quality, the camp is quite adventurous. However, guests are well looked after with simple but good quality food, cold drinks, hot showers and warm personal hosting. Mapazi will only suit more adventurous travellers, but for anyone experienced on safari who loves walking, great guiding and a very exclusive bush adventure, Mapazi has to be high on your list!
