DESERT & DELTA
6 nights of exclusive game viewing combining the Central Kalahari and Okavango Delta.
This is an itinerary of contrasts, as you explore the dry Kalahari ecosystem before flying into the lush paradise of the Okavango Delta. The Kalahari Desert covers much of Botswana and is home to a wide range of wildlife including various more unusual or rarer species. Where the Okavango River flows into the Kalahari basin, its waters are forced to spread out, creating the phenomenon which is the Okavango Delta, an inland delta paradise. Here there are waterways, lagoons and flood plains interspersed with dry woodland and open grassland. This itinerary allows you to experience both of these key ecosystems, with excellent game viewing throughout and very varied activities.

ITINERARY DETAILS
Day 1-3: Dinaka – 3 nights
From Maun you connect with a shared light aircraft transfer south to the northern edge of the vast Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Land in the exclusive Dinaka Concession, where your time is spent exploring the classic Kalahari landscape. Game drives by day and night are offered, with chances to seek out rarer species, including white rhino, that visit the various waterholes on the concession. Walking safaris are also available, including the chance to join San bushmen on an educational walk. There are also a couple of hides on the concession, which are great for game viewing and photography, a sleep out deck under the stars and a look out platform used for special sunset drinks. Dinaka is a very comfortable tented camp overlooking a water hole that attracts a wide variety of animals and birds. The camp atmosphere is warm and friendly and the staff are lovely.
Day 4-6: Shinde Camp – 3 nights
This morning you connect with a shared light aircraft transfer north (probably via Maun) to the north-eastern section of the incredible Okavango Delta. As you begin to fly over the delta you will be amazed at the difference in scenery below, as a mixture of permanent lagoons, reedbeds and riverine woodlands punctuate the harsh Kalahari scrub. Landing at a bush airstrip on the private Shinde Concession you will transfer through to Shinde, arriving in time for lunch overlooking the river in front of camp. Your time exploring the Okavango Delta will include game drives by day and night, walking safaris (optional) and water-based activities. The game viewing is superb with all the major species present, except rhino. Shinde is a very established and comfortable tented lodge offering excellent hospitality and a good balance between luxury and adventure.
Day 7: End of Arrangements
After your final morning activity, you will connect with a shared light aircraft flight to Maun.
