Namibia

  • Hennie and Jeff found us through Travelspinner.com and travelled around NamibiaThe trip of a lifetime! We felt like rock stars, flying in and out of camps and lodges, with never a moment’s doubt about a pickup or transfer. The recommended itinerary – arrived at after quite a bit of back and forth, since we were limited by time and had peculiar wishes, such as a preference for landscape and culture rather than game – suited us perfectly. I’d recommend Rob Slater to anyone planning a trip to Namibia.
Safari Consultants booked us 4 days with Johan Burger through Kunene Tours, and this camping segment proved to be the highlight of the trip. We found Johan super easy going, super well informed and prepared, and seemed to have radar as far as finding game was concerned – in short a dream camping trip was the result. We saw way more wildlife than we expected, and got as close to the land and culture as I think it’s possible to get in 9 days.Hennie and Jeff found us through Travelspinner.com and travelled around Namibia

Accommodation Options In Namibia

Namibia offers a wide variety of accommodation to suit different requirements. As self-drive is a popular way to tour the country, there are reasonably priced guest farms, country/desert hotels and safari lodges strategically located around the country. In designated nature reserves, private conservancies and wildlife parks, more typical safari accommodation styles are found, including intimate tented lodges and exclusive desert lodges. The government body for running Namibia’s National Parks and Reserves, Namibia Wildlife Resorts, also offer a range of accommodation, from basic camp sites and self-catering chalets, to a limited number of luxury safari lodges. There is a general mix of properties offering either accommodation only, or accommodation with a range of local activities.

Whilst most accommodation in Namibia can comfortably be reached by normal saloon car, some remote properties are only accessible by 4×4 vehicle or by air. Invariably, these properties include a fully hosted experience with guided activities included.

Tented safaris are a popular way to experience the country, and they allow you to access the most remote regions where no permanent accommodation exists. The camps tend to be very lightweight and mobile (luxury mobile camps have never proved very practical when travelling huge distances through difficult terrain), and these safaris are available either privately, or part of a small group (see our ‘Group tours’ section).

Whilst historically Namibia has never been known as a ‘five star’ destination, there are a number of properties across the country which do offer very high levels of sophistication and luxury which can include features such as air-conditioning and private plunge pools.

Please find below a variety of individual properties and safari options available in Namibia, listed by accommodation style and where appropriate, by region.
